Highlights
- 2026 – ProgEvo / IPSS-M-Evo is published in NEJM Evidence, introducing an evolution-informed prognostic score for myelodysplastic syndromes and accompanied by an editorial on dynamic clonal-evolution risk stratification (article, editorial, IPSS-M-Evo calculator).
- 2026 – Daniele Ramazzotti is awarded a My First AIRC Grant (MFAG 2025) by Fondazione AIRC for Cancer Research. (AIRC – My First AIRC Grant).
- 2025 – EvoClin, a university spin-off project under development, wins the Premio Nazionale Innovazione (PNI) 2025 in the Life Sciences & MedTech category (DISCo news, BNews feature).
- 2025 – The ASTUTE method identifies an NRF2-based molecular signature predictive of prognosis across multiple tumour types (Dept. of Medicine & Surgery news, BNews feature).
- 2025 – RESOLVE, a new method for the analysis of mutational signatures across >20,000 adult and paediatric tumours, refines diagnosis, prognosis and treatment strategies and is featured on national TV on Casa Italia (Rai Italia) (Unimib news, RaiPlay – Casa Italia interview, AIRC feature, ANSA, Le Scienze).
- 2023 – ASCETIC is introduced as an algorithm to reconstruct tumour evolution models from large cancer genomics cohorts (Unimib press release, Corriere della Sera, ANSA).
- 2023 – A joint study with international collaborators uncovers the role of Escherichia coli colibactin in colorectal carcinogenesis (Unimib press release, La Repubblica, La Stampa, Radio24 – Obiettivo Salute).
- 2022 – Work on synonymous mutations in SARS-CoV-2 shows that even “silent” changes contribute to viral adaptation to the human host (BNews article).
- 2021 – The VERSO framework and related methods provide new tools to reconstruct viral evolution and analyse SARS-CoV-2 genomic diversity (CNR press release, Unimib news, Corriere – “cacciatori di mutazioni”, TG1 RAI coverage).
- 2018–2019 – Earlier work at Stanford contributes to data-driven stratification of tumour types and decision-making in end-of-life care (Big data in oncology, Palliative care insights).
- 2016 – Early work on probabilistic cancer progression models and the PiCnIc / CAPRI algorithms is featured in national media (La Repubblica – “Mappare il cancro con un algoritmo”, BBC – AI to predict cancer growth).

May 2026 – The lab publishes “Prognostic Score for Myelodysplastic Syndromes Based on Molecular Evolution”
in NEJM Evidence. The study introduces ProgEvo and IPSS-M-Evo, extending IPSS-M
with evolution-informed variables and validating the model across external cohorts. A linked editorial frames the work
as a move “from static to dynamic” risk assessment through clonal evolution.

present the RESOLVE study and discuss how a few key mutational processes generate most of the mutations
observed in cancer, and how this knowledge can inform diagnosis, prognosis and personalised therapies.

September 2025 – The bioinformatics tool ASTUTE associates KEAP1/NFE2L2
alterations with an NRF2 expression signature that serves as a prognostic biomarker across >3,600 tumours,
