The TBL offers projects at the interface of method development and clinical applications, in close collaboration with clinicians and experimental groups at the University of Milano-Bicocca and Fondazione IRCCS San Gerardo dei Tintori.

Master thesis projects
We regularly supervise Master thesis projects in computer science, bioinformatics and related programmes. Topics include cancer evolution, mutational signatures analysis, multi-omics integration, and clinical prediction models.
PhD positions
PhD opportunities may be available through doctoral programmes affiliated with the University of Milano-Bicocca. Candidates with strong quantitative backgrounds and interest in translational research are encouraged to get in touch.
Postdoctoral fellowships & research positions
When funding is available, we may recruit postdoctoral researchers and research fellows. Positions will be advertised through institutional channels, but interested candidates are welcome to send an expression of interest.

FAQ for prospective students & researchers
Do I need a strong programming background?
A solid quantitative background is important, and familiarity with at least one programming language (such as R or Python) is highly recommended. However, motivation to learn and interest in data-driven research are equally important.
Can I complete a thesis project in TBL if I am not enrolled at UniMiB?
In most cases, thesis projects are carried out by students enrolled at the University of Milano-Bicocca. External students or visiting students may be considered on a case-by-case basis, often through formal agreements between institutions.
Are projects more methodological or more clinical?
Both. Some projects are primarily methodological, focusing on new algorithms or statistical models; others are more translational, developed in close collaboration with clinicians and experimental labs and centered on specific tumour types or clinical questions.
What should I include in my application email?
A concise CV, a short statement of your interests and background (1–2 paragraphs), your transcripts (if available), and a brief indication of whether you are more interested in methodological or translational work. If you already have specific ideas or preferred topics, feel free to mention them.
